Complete resection is associated with favorable postsurgical outcomes in children with drug-resistant epilepsy and focal cortical dysplasia (FCD), according to researchers at the Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad, India.
The researchers evaluated outcomes in 112 consecutive children with drug-resistant epilepsy and FCD who underwent surgery at their institution between 2005 and 2015. Eligible patients had isolated type I and/or type II FCD and at least 5 years of postsurgical follow-up.
The mean age at epilepsy onset was 4.6 years and the mean age at surgery was 10.3 years.
